Ninja Assassin

What's odd about the Matrix trilogy is that, even though the films don't hold up particularly well (especially since the third one was never any good to begin with) almost none of the long line of stylistic imitators that have come since have really been able to top it. You might think that director James McTeigue would be able to pull it off with Ninja Assassin, having worked with the Wachowskis on that trilogy as well as Speed Racer and V For Vendetta, but while he and Korean Pop star Rain come close in many ways, The Matrix still clings onto the crown.

Ninja Assassin tries to fix the main mistake of The Matrix—an obtuse, irrelevant story—by basically skpping the story completely. The alleged "plot" of the film has something to do with some kind of government agency from some country stopping some ninja clan from doing something with the Yakuza. Something about gold, perhaps. This summary isn't deliberately reductive to make a point; that really is about as much as is ever explained. It would be silly to expect more, and after the first few minutes of gory action, (more on that later) any attempts to explore the story are pointless, unwelcomed distractions from Rain doing horrific things with a variety of sharp objects.

Beanie Sigel Says Jay-Z May Use Nas To Retaliate

The beef between Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel isn't over but Jay has yet to make any new remarks. Instead, Beanie Sigel has hit the radio waves to continue speaking out against S. Carter. This time, Beans says Jay-Z is planning on using Nas to go against him and 50 Cent in a remix to "Empire State of Mind." He also adds that part of Jay's American Gangster was stolen from his song concepts and says he and 50 are using eachother.

"I played music for Jay, when I was working on The Solution album...There were song concepts on there. I had a song on that joint with no hook on it. I told him it didn't need no hook on it. He got a song 'I don't need no hook for this shit.' I had a song on there called 'Prayer,' he got a song called 'Pray.'"

During the interview, Beans goes on to say that Jay will use Nas in this battle.

"But listen, dude's so manipulative, this is what Jay do. I credit him for the moves he make but I'm nice at chess, too. They say he got a record [that's] supposed to come out, the remix to that "New York" shit. He poppin' shots at me. He poppin' shots at 50. But, he put Nas on the record hoping that a nigga will respond to it and come at Nas. Nas gon' come right back. He's not gonna hold no punches. He's gon' come right back. He should come right back, but look at the moves. I seen it."

"I'm not worried about Nas. I did that, already. I did that already, in defense of [Jay]. I was there when dude was in the studio, on the couch, scratching his head under pressure."

Radio One, owner of urban publication Giant Magazine, has announced that the print edition will cease publication after the upcoming issue is released to newsstands.

An Empire at Risk

Call it the fractal geometry of fiscal crisis. If you fly across the Atlantic on a clear day, you can look down and see the same phenomenon but on four entirely different scales. At one extreme there is tiny Iceland. Then there is little Ireland, followed by medium-size Britain. They're all a good deal smaller than the mighty United States. But in each case the economic crisis has taken the same form: a massive banking crisis, followed by an equally massive fiscal crisis as the government stepped in to bail out the private financial system.

Size matters, of course. For the smaller countries, the financial losses arising from this crisis are a great deal larger in relation to their gross domestic product than they are for the United States. Yet the stakes are higher in the American case. In the great scheme of things—let's be frank—it does not matter much if Iceland teeters on the brink of fiscal collapse, or Ireland, for that matter. The locals suffer, but the world goes on much as usual.

Alicia Keys Ecstatic About Jewelry Collection, Her Upcoming "Freedom"

With 12 Grammys, four number one albums and a slew of roles on the big screen, you would think Alicia Keys had more than enough to put on her resume.

In an effort to expand her brand and career, the 28-year-old singing sensation is now pursing a number of ventures outside of music that she calls "business of inspiration."

Keys, who recently launched her new company AK Worldwide (AKW), announced a partnership in The Barber's Daughters jewelry line - the first of many endeavors, she says.

The inspirational handcrafted jewelry line caught the singer's eyes during a tour stop in Toronto last summer and inspired her to design her own collection for the line.

"They are these unique one of a kind pieces that have the most beautiful words on them, and for me - as a song writer - words mean everything to me," she told PIX News during a retail gallery reception Tuesday at the Collette Blanchard Gallery in Soho.

"People always tell me my music has gotten them through different periods in their lives and I feel this is an extension of that."

2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe - Official Photos and Info

After a long wait—the concept debuted at the 2008 Detroit auto show—Cadillac has officially taken the wraps off the 2011 Cadillac CTS coupe. Originally planned as a 2010 model, the release was pushed back as General Motors slogged through bankruptcy restructuring and the sexy 2+2 will now debut at the Los Angeles auto show before hitting the market in the spring. Rear- and all-wheel-drive variants will be available, while a 556-hp CTS-V Coupe also is en route and will debut later in 2010.

Based on the CTS sedan, the coupe rides on the same 113.4-inch wheelbase, yet is about two inches lower and two inches shorter overall. The seductive design includes a more rakish windshield, as well as blacked-out B-pillars, hidden touch-pad door releases, a unique rear fascia with twin center-mounted exhaust outlets, and an integrated rear spoiler.

A 304-hp, direct-injected 3.6-liter V-6 is the only engine for non-V models and will be backed by a standard six-speed manual transmission—with a clutch and flywheel revised from the CTS sedan—or an optional six-speed automatic. Cadillac estimates highway fuel economy will be as high as 27 mpg. The CTS sedan with the direct-injected 3.6 is rated at 16 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway and manual gearbox and 18/27 with the automatic. Eighteen-inch wheels with all-season tires and a sport suspension will be standard on both rear- and all-wheel-drive versions, while a Summer Tire Performance Package will add sportier 19-inch rubber, likely only on rear-drive models. A limited-slip differential is standard, as is electronic stability control.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Jay-Z & Nas To Collab On "Empire State of Mind" REmix!

THE REMIX: JAY-Z AND NAS ON “EMPIRE STATE OF MIND”

That is right.

You know what it is.

You are going to LOVE THIS.

JAY-Z AND NAS WILL JOIN FORCES FOR A REMIX OF EMPIRE STATE OF MIND.

You heard it here first, my friends. Tell 'em illseed told you! As you already know, there have been rumors that Nas was supposed to be on the original version, which is a very loose ode to his “New York State of Mind.” From various interviews, we’ve noticed that Nas has eluded the notion that he was unavailable for the original. I suppose this matters not at this point. All that matters is that FANS ARE IN FOR A TREAT!

When I say treat, I mean TREAT.

2010 is going to be a wonderful year.

Jim Jones Refutes To Cam'ron's 'Dipset Is Over' Statement

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.10188/title.jim-jones-refutes-to-camrons-dipset-is-over-statement

While Cam'ron might think that the Dipset movement "is over," the collective's "capo," Jim Jones, begs to differ.

“There aint no one person that can say Dipset is over,” said Jones to radio personality Angela Yee on her Shade 45 show, Lip Service. “People just been doin’ a lot of YouTubing and trying to get themselves hot. When you can’t get on the radio I guess YouTube is the next best thing to get on,” he added, referring to Cam'ron.

“I am Dipset,” responded Jones when asked his feelings about Dipset's situation. “Whoever don’t like it come holla at me. I been Dipset. It started in the projects and ain’t nobody got me out of Apt. 5H but myself…and this is not a publicity stunt. I don’t go around sitting in shopping carts,” once again referring to Cam'ron, who had previously jumped in a shopping cart at the end of an interview. ”I go around getting money. If there’s a problem; there’s a thin line between love and hate."

Beanie Releases "How I Could Kill Jigga Man"

With at least two shots fired at Jay-Z in the form of dis songs, Beanie Sigel is continuing his attacks of his former friend. This weekend, Beans released a new track aimed at the Roc boss. In a remake of Cypress Hill's 1991 hit "How I Could Just Kill a Man," Beanie flips the chorus to claim he could "just kill Jigga Man."

The track starts with Beans flipping Jay's own words from The Takeover, before going into his verse.

"The takeover, nigga, the break's over/Fraud emcee, he, Jay Hova/Hey little soldier you ain't ready for the rude boy/quick to pull the tool boy," he rhymes to jump the track off before describing just how he could kill Jay.

"I'll send something through you, boy/ Let these hollows run through you, boy/ I'll ruin boy/ Make your body leak fluid, boy."

Later on the track, Beans goes on to say Jay is not a goon and makes fun of his wardrobe before adding more. At the end of the track, he also sends a word to Memphis Bleek.

"I thought you was the boy, boy. You ain't nothin' but a boy boy, boy...I ain't gonna stop, boy. I'm not goin' to stop. Stop bitchin', Bleek. I ain't gonna fuck with you no more, boy. Fuck that."

Wiz KhalifaDeal Or No Deal

Most people know Pittsburgh emcee Wiz Khalifa because of his great, 2008 synth-heavy single “Say Yeah.” The DXnext alum is fully aware of that appeal, because damn near every song on Deal Or No Deal feels like an attempt to somehow recapture the glory of said song: synth riffs dominate the mix (though none as catchy as the Alice Deejay sample from “Say Yeah!”) while lyrics focus almost exclusively on women, weed, and money, and a steady, if at times overly-simple beat anchors the proceedings. But unfortunately, no song on Khalifa’s second pre-release album captures the effervescent atmosphere of his best single, though some come remarkably close. In doing so, the mid-tempo groove that most of the songs are locked into makes the album drag for long stretches. It’s this lack of youthful energy, which was so abundant on “Say Yeah!”, that makes Deal Or No Deal less than satisfying, as when you listen to an album from a talented 22 year-old one of the last things you expect it to ever be is lethargic.

Lupe Fiasco: "I'm Nicer Than All of Them"

Lupe Fiasco's new album was supposed to be his last. After all, he left his previous effort by saying he had "one more to go, L.U.P.End." Now, it seems there's a lot more coming from Fiasco and he recently spoke about this in an interview with MTV.

After being left off the network's "Hottest" list, Lupe noted that he was out to prove a point.

"The last six months, it's been like, 'I gotta really, really go out there and show that I'm nicer than all of them,' " he said. "It's like, 'Alright, so be it. If it takes three more albums to do it, then so be it.' That's what I got left with Atlantic. Three more after Lasers. I'm already done with two. The mixtape is coming Thanksgiving. It'll be another mixtape after that and an album after that. It's really to get that status and lock it in and [and have people] be like, 'Look at this positive dude, the underdog. The positive one who came and murdered all these dudes. And he's there, and he's good.'"

Adding to his hunger, he said he's ready to become the best in any category of emceeing.

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.10185/title.lupe-fiasco-im-nicer-than-all-of-them

"I'm finnin' to house every single mode and arena I can get into. If y'all had somewhere where it's live performances, I'm finnin to have the best live performances. If it's mixtapes, I'm finnin' to have the best mixtapes. If it's albums again, it's gonna be the best verse. If it's the best dressed, I'm going hard as well."

He went on to say this mixtape will feature instrumentals used by others.

M-Eighty Will Attempt To Break Freestyle Record

On December 19, rapper and Wu-Tang affiliate M-Eighty will attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Record’s record for longest freestyle.

The current Guinness record is 8 hours and 45 minutes and was set by Canadian rapper D.O. years ago.

“I don’t think it was ever a question of whether I could freestyle for x amount of time; I believe you can do anything you set your mind to,” M-Eighty said in a statement. “I chose to take on this obstacle because at the end of the day I am providing a great service to others and doing something life altering for an entire community in the name of education.”

Triple C's Call Out KRS-One, Explain Why Hip Hop Isn't Dead

Triple C's Call Out KRS-One, Explain Why Hip Hop Isn't Dead11.22.09

by Krysten Hughes ShareThis Page TwitterShare on FacebookMySpaceIn a recent interview with rollingout.com, Rick Ross' group Triple C's, also known as Carol City Cartel, called out KRS-One and whether or not Hip Hop is dead.

Torch, one third of the Florida based group stated "You notice it's the people that always say 'Hip Hop is dead,' that ain't got no [money]."

"To top it all off, it's like, Hip Hop is dead but when they had their run, the same people that say these things, they be in pictures with AK's, they forget all that now. You need your track record, do your homework and the same record that people are pointing their fingers, you gotta realize, every time you point your finger, the other four are pointing right back at you," he added.

While Torch was explaining this during the interview, Gunplay interrupted, calling out KRS-One's most esteemed album. "Criminal Minded," he laughed while sarcastically coughing.

"You gotta understand what's going on. So at the end of the day, I ain't with the finger pointing and the other four pointing back at you, but at the end of the day, music is music. You stay in your genre of music," Torch continued.

Emmanuel Jal: The war child fighting for a better future

Emmanuel Jal is fighting to give the youth of Sudan an education after his own childhood was stolen by war.

The Sudanese hip hop musician was a former child soldier of Sudan's brutal civil war that raged between 1983 and 2005. Unlike thousands of other "lost boys" he survived, but by the time he was 13 he had witnessed the unspeakable horrors of war and had seen hundreds of others like him perish.

Now around 30-years-old (he's not sure exactly when he was born) and with a critically acclaimed album and autobiography to his name, Jal is focused on building a school in Sudan to give children there the chances he never had.

It's a project that has been almost all consuming; Jal decided that he would forego breakfast and lunch each day until enough money was raised. The funds have not been as forthcoming as Jal had hoped

Next year's Twitter? It's Foursquare

As 2009 draws to a close, with Twitter undoubtedly this year's media darling and Facebook continuing on its path to global domination, you may wonder which social-media service will become tech's poster boy in 2010.

Among the Web's early adopter set, the answer is nearly unanimous: Foursquare.

While the technology landscape is ever-changing, I'd argue that Foursquare already has aligned itself to become next year's mainstream hit.

The Twitter connection

Birthed by the team that brought us the mobile social network Dodgeball (acquired by Google in 2005 and later shuttered), the location-based mobile startup serves a simple purpose: It lets an individual share his or her location with a group of friends.

Foursquare ventures beyond utility, however: It's a virtual game in which participants earn badges for checking in at various locations; those that check in most become a venue's "mayor." By all accounts, this mechanism is as addictive as Twitter, Facebook or checking your e-mail on a BlackBerry.

Originally launched as an iPhone application and seeded by the young early-adopter set in cities such as New York and San Francisco, the site's founders were able to leap from a ready-made springboard: Twitter.

With users' "check-ins" being posted to the messaging service, Foursquare was able to gain a foothold in much the same way YouTube built its lead from videos embedded in MySpace pages.

The parallels with Twitter are numerous. As technology early adopter and popular blogger Robert Scoble wrote in September: "Go back three years ago. Twitter was being used by the same crowd that is playing with Foursquare today."

The similarities don't stop there: Twitter first took hold at Austin's South By Southwest festival in 2007; Foursquare made its debut at SXSW 2009. Members of both founding teams have previously built successful social startups; both those startups were sold to Google.

The two companies share investors, too: Union Square Ventures is a backer, while Twitter inventor Jack Dorsey made an angel investment in Foursquare. Other notable investors include the founders of Digg and Delicious, and famed angel investor Ron Conway. Union Square Ventures' Fred Wilson observed that Foursquare's first round financing was "among the most competitive early round financings I've seen in a long time."

Woman Loses Benefits over Facebook Photo

A Canadian woman on long-term sick leave for depression says she lost her benefits because her insurance agent found photos of her on Facebook in which she appeared to be having fun.

Nathalie Blanchard has been on leave from her job at IBM in Bromont, Quebec, for the last year.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Saturday she was diagnosed with major depression and was receiving monthly sick-leave benefits from insurance giant Manulife.

But the payments dried up this fall and when Blanchard called Manulife, she says she was told she was available to work because of Facebook.

She said her insurance agent described several pictures Blanchard posted on Facebook, including ones showing her having a good time at a Chippendales bar show, at her birthday party and on a sun holiday.

Blanchard said Manulife told her it's evidence she is no longer depressed. She's fighting to get her benefits reinstated and says her lawyer is exploring what the next step should be.

Blanchard told the CBC that on her doctor's advice, she tried to have fun, including nights out at her local bar with friends and short getaways to sun destinations, as a way to forget her problems.

Manulife wouldn't comment on Blanchard's case, but did say they would not deny or terminate a claim solely based on information published on Web sites such as Facebook.

Trapped 'coma' man: How was he misdiagnosed?

A Belgian car crash victim who was misdiagnosed as being in a vegetative state for 23 years was conscious the whole time, it has emerged.

For years he listened to the conversations going on around him but he was unable to communicate with his doctors or family.

Rom Houben was 23 at the time of the near-fatal car crash in 1983 that left him paralyzed. Doctors presumed he was in a vegetative state following the accident and they believed he could feel and hear nothing.

Neurologist Dr.Steven Laureys of the University of Liege, in Belgium carried out a brain scan using state-of-the art scanning system and discovered that Houben's brain was fully functional.

In an interview with the UK's ITV news Monday, Rom communicated by typing on a special keyboard attached to his wheelchair, and aided by his carer.

He said: "At some moments it was terribly lonely but I knew my family was believing in me."

"I simply want to enjoy life," he added. "I notice a big difference now I'm back in contact with the world."

Eminem To Re-Release Relapse With 5 New Tracks

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.10166/title.eminem-to-re-release-relapse-with-5-new-tracks

Although he had initially planned for a fourth quarter release for Relapse 2, Eminem has now altered his plans and will instead re-issue Relapse with seven bonus tracks.

According to the rapper's homepage, the re-release of Slim Shady's fifth solo effort will be titled Relapse: Refill, and will feature five never-before-heard songs, plus his posse cut with Drake, Lil Wayne and Kanye, "Forever," and "Taking My Ball," which also appeared on the "Renegade" edition of DJ Hero.

"I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned" said Eminem. "Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year".

Game: The Ecstatic

It's less than two weeks away from Game's thirtieth birthday. Few seem to realize that the youthful, energetic, and once death-defying rapper is reaching that benchmark in his life. But then again, looking at Ice Cube, Dr. Dre or Snoop Dogg, do gangsta rappers ever really grow old anyway?

If there's one sign that Jayceon Taylor is closing out the third decade of his life, it's his happiness. Speaking with HipHopDX on the evening of November 18 (seven hours prior to publication), the once evasive, sometimes confrontational and always outspoken rapper beams with a confidence and a care in his words. Yes, he still curses like a sailor in a tone reserved for a sidewalk executive, but Game isn't out to offend anybody this time around. Instead, just as the acronym for his R.E.D. album indicates, he just wants to re-dedicate himself to Hip Hop.

The father of two touches upon his recent reunion with one of his mentors, Dr. Dre. He explains why he refuses to "get murdered on his own shit" and why he's chasing down DJ Premier for a pan-am collaboration that he hopes will set Hip Hop ablaze. Two years removed from considering retirement, Game is smiling in the face of adversity. And this time it's sincere.

HipHopDX: I want to start where our last conversation left off, I think it was June, 2008. At that time, you weren't even sure you were going to make another album at all. But you told me, if you were, it was going to be D.O.C. - Diary of Compton. You were talking all these legendary guests and this theme. Maybe that still is a plan of yours, but at what point and why did it evolve to the R.E.D. album?

Game: The way it happened...I was starting to work on D.O.C., right? But, like I told you last time, in order to record The D.O.C., I need to be in the studio with D.O.C., with [Dr.] Dre, with [Ice] Cube, with Snoop [Dogg] - 'cause it's the Diary of Compton. I really want it to sound like...like, after you finish listening to The D.O.C., which will probably be recorded and put out by the end of my career, at some point, when I can get in with those guys and really focus on that project. I want you to feel like you're from Compton after you hear it. You felt everything that I felt and knew everything that I knew; I want it to just sound like you were me. I want you to feel like you grew up with me. You're from Compton [hearing Eazy-E for the first time]. I want you to be on The Diary Of Compton. I want it to be that intimate and that crazy. So to pull off that concept, the key elements were missing at the time when I started the album, so I stopped that project.

Bob Lutz Says Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon is Definitely Coming

GM’s vice chairman Bob Lutz has confirmed that the 556-hp Cadillac CTS-V wagon will indeed become a production reality. Lutz dropped the W-bomb during a recent one-on-one interview while discussing how to prime the market for cool cargo haulers—like a possible Buick Regal wagon—especially among the over-35 set that grew up traumatized by wood-paneled Grand Marquis and Chrysler K-car wagon-trocities. Then Lutz said, “You know what’s really going to get you guys [on board with wagons] is the CTS-V wagon.”

In today's space race, watch out for China

When China decided to test an anti-satellite missile in 2007, the impact shattered not just the target satellite but any illusions that China did not have military intentions in space and the capabilities to achieve them.

The United States is still ahead in space development, but China has been making impressive progress in expanding its own program -- and it has not gone unnoticed.

"I think anyone who's familiar with the space business, and particularly the history, our history in the space business over the years, would have to be absolutely amazed at the advancements that China has made in such a short period of time," said Gen. Kevin Chilton, head of the U.S. Strategic Command, which is in charge of the military's space operations.

"They certainly are on a fast track to improve their capabilities," Chilton said in early November. "They're to be commended for the achievements that they've done in such a short period of time."

China's intentions in space are a matter of great interest to the United States.

The Pentagon is trying to encourage more transparency by the communist country and last month hosted a delegation that included Gen. Xu Caihou of China's Central Military Commission. Xu met with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and toured various U.S. installations, including STRATCOM, which oversees space, cyberspace and nuclear military operations.

"Where they're heading, I think, is one of the things that a lot of people would like to understand better," Chilton said. He would not speak in detail about any of the discussions between U.S. and Chinese officials.

Any hope for transparency will be tough to come by. China itself may not have a handle on its intentions, said Roger Cliff, a Chinese military analyst at RAND, a global policy think tank. Cliff said there is an internal struggle within the Chinese military for who will control the space mission.

Unsolved math problem turns 150

Happy 150th anniversary to the Riemann Hypothesis, one of the most important math problems ever!

Proposed by Bernhard Riemann in 1859, the Riemann Hypothesis deals with prime numbers. You may recall that a prime number is a positive whole number that has only two positive whole number divisors: one and itself. The first of them are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, in order.

This hypothesis would be able to provide a better estimate than ever before of a special function denoted as Pi(x). Pi(x) represents the number of prime numbers that are no bigger than x, where x is a positive number. For example, Pi(14) would be 6, because there are six prime numbers (2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13) no bigger than 14. That's probably the most understandable explanation you're going to get that doesn't involve "zeta functions" and other technical terms.

Given that many of the best mathematicians have tried and failed to provide a solution, the proof is probably not easy or obvious, says Peter Sarnak, professor of mathematics at Princeton University and an authority on the subject. “Most experts expect that a proof will require a major new insight into the structure of whole numbers and the prime numbers,” he said.

But if you can solve it, the Clay Mathematics Institute will give you $1 million.

Can the law keep up with technology?

In a case that would have been impossible even five years ago, bad-girl rocker Courtney Love is being sued for libel by a fashion designer for allegedly slamming the woman on Twitter.

The suit claims that after a disagreement over what Love should pay Dawn Simorangkir for the clothes she designed, Love posted allegedly derogatory and false comments about the designer -- among them that she had a "history of dealing cocaine" -- on her now-discontinued Twitter feed.

But as technology evolves faster than the laws that govern free speech online, it's not just the famous who are finding trouble.

Consider the case of Amanda Bonnen and her former landlord. Bonnen, an Illinois resident, is accused of using Twitter to tell another user: "Who said sleeping in a moldy apartment was bad for you? Horizon Realty thinks it's okay."

The child is the second son to be born to Lil Wayne in 2009. The rapper also welcomed a son in September, with actress Lauren London.

Reports stated that Lil Wayne missed the birth of his son with Nivea due to a prior engagement in Atlanta with Young Money artist Shanell, with whom he is rumored to be romantically involved with.

The child is Lil Wayne’s third son and fourth child in total. He also has a ten-year old daughter named Reginae, with reality star Toya Carter of BET’s reality show Tiny & Toya.

Google poised to become your phone company

Google is set to become your new phone company, perhaps reducing your phone bill to zilch in the process.

Seriously.

Google has bought Gizmo5, an online phone company that is akin to Skype but based on open protocols and with a lot fewer users. TechCrunch, which broke the news on Monday, reported that Google spent $30 million on the company.

Google announced the Gizmo acquisition on Thursday afternoon Pacific Time. Gizmo5's founder Michael Robertson, a brash serial entrepreneur, will become an Adviser to Google Voice.

It's a potent recipe -- take Gizmo5's open standards-based online calling system. Add to it the new ability to route calls on Google's massive network of cheap fiber. Toss in Google Voice's free phone number, which will ring your mobile phone, your home phone and your Gizmo5 client on your laptop. ÿþ

Meanwhile you can use Gizmo5 to make ultracheap outgoing calls to domestic and international phone numbers, and free calls to Skype, Google Talk, Yahoo and AIM users. You could make and receive calls that bypass the per-minute billing on your smartphone.

Then layer on deluxe phone services like free SMS, voicemail transcription, customized call routing, free conference calls and voicemails sent as recordings to your e-mail account, and you have a phone service that competes with Skype, landlines and the Internet telephone offerings from Vonage and cable companies.

5 tips for fixing your Facebook

With more than 300 million active users, Facebook has come a long way from its roots as a way for Harvard students to keep in touch.

Teens, grandmas, musicians and politicians have all joined those early college students, making the social-networking hub one of the most heavily trafficked sites on the Internet.

But for some users, the site's popularity -- and the periodic tinkering with "the old Facebook" -- means growing pains, too.

More friends means more people to spam up your news feed with links, photos and update boxes from the applications they use. Sure, you're happy to be in touch with Aunt Ethel -- but do you really need to know who she just murdered in Mafia Wars or which member of the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials she is?

NFL player inspires Hollywood

The life story of Michael Oher sounds like something out of a movie.

The son of a crack addict, he was a homeless teenager until he met Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy. The Memphis family took him into their home along with their other children, daughter Collins and son Sean Jr.

Eventually, he became a National Football League first-round draft pick, now playing right tackle for the Baltimore Ravens.

Oher's story became central to a book by Michael Lewis ("Moneyball") and was the inspiration for "The Blind Side" starring Sandra Bullock. The film opens nationwide on November 20. Oher also will be playing with the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.

Oher spoke exclusively to Prime News' Mike Galanos about his life, the NFL and the new movie

Reputed Mexican drug lord on Forbes most-powerful list

A reputed Mexican drug lord with a $5 million reward on his head has been named to Forbes magazine's list of the most powerful people in the world.

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, who authorities say heads the powerful Sinaloa Cartel, is believed to have shipped $6 billion to $19 billion in cocaine to the United States over the past eight years, Forbes says in the listing.

The magazine ranks him No. 41, ahead of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev (No. 43), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (46), French President Nicolas Sarkozy (56) and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (67). Guzman also bested U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts (49) and entertainer Oprah Winfrey (45) on the list, released Wednesday.

Drake Discusses Written Freestyles

Drake spoke to MTV regarding the small controversy that surrounded his Hot 97 freestyle where the Canadian MC read rhymes written on his cell phone.

"I'll never forget the night, man, when I went up to Hot 97, and it wasn't scheduled," Drake told MTV. "It wasn't like, you know, 'Drake's coming up here Tuesday.' It was literally like, 'Funk Flex wants to meet you,' and bam, like, two seconds later, it was like, 'Let's go on the radio and just kill New York.' I'll never forget how nervous I was. It was such a rookie hip-hop moment — and, obviously, the controversy of me pulling out my phone and rapping off my phone because I just wasn't prepared. A lot of people don't know the difference between freestyle or off the top and coming to a radio show knowing you got to go there, so you got verses cued up in your head, whether they be off your upcoming album or verses just that you have laying around. A lot of artists get that preparation time."

50 Cent Before I Self Destruct

When we first met 50 Cent in the late ‘90s, he was a cocky battle rapper with a tongue as sharp as the weapons he carried. After enduring a shooting that was damn near impossible to survive, Fif reemerged as the bionic man that we’ve known for most of his mainstream career. His knack for tough-guy-talk to the tune of floor-shaking beats left Curtis at the forefront of a movement that started before him, but he managed to own midway. Fast-forward to Corporate 50: the man who’s more Hollywood than Hollis, more Vitamin Water than quarter water. That’s fine – the natural progression for successful rappers these days is to become a brand. The conflict comes when the demand for more music does. That is where Before I Self Destruct arrives at a screeching halt – we’ve witnessed business suit 50 for a while now; we’re expecting a corporate thug, but we’re left with the school bully once again.

Dashaun "Jiwe" Morris: The Blood Author Writes For Change

http://allhiphop.com/stories/reviewsbooks/archive/2009/11/05/22014047.aspx

I thought I had some understanding about gangs and gang members. Much of what I thought was wrong. So much of our education comes from news reports, rap, movies, documentaries and other external "reporting" entities. And far too often, they serve to satisfy a public's need to judge, to stereotype or to act as a voyeur into a world far more dangerous than their own.
