Christine Curtis: "Moving Against The Current, Making Her Soul, Her Mind, & Her Gift Stronger..." (Bmore)

Born in Baltimore, MD on February 7, 1986, Christine Curtis was born to Adrienne G. Curtis and Raymond Manley. Being the younger of two old brothers, her life began very sheltered and protected, but that was soon to change. As soon as she was able to walk and coordinate her movements she was put into dance class. She danced with Flair Studios until she was old enough to decide not to go back, but she still found her way to a stage even if she weren’t dancing. Through singing at church and local talent shows she realized that what she wanted to do the most was sing and make music. After a custody battle, Christine was sent to live with her father in Baltimore County and that is where her journey with music began. When she was just a child at the tender age of 9 she moved with her father. She started using the voice recorder on her father's stereo and recorded many songs. She had no idea then that music would follow her through her entire life.
She danced all the way through high school, but she still grabbed a microphone whenever possible. Whether it were for a middle school showcase, or a high school senior farewell, or fashion show, she was there singing. She started working towards her dreams seriously at the age of 13. She started first with a childhood friend and together they formed a duet then after meeting their previous manager, they formed a group. She found herself being the main writer of the group. They performed at talent shows hosted by Coppin State College and talent shows held at Security Square Mall, gaining a taste of the real world and learning the necessities to becoming good performers. When that group fell apart she joined another local group entitled Madison at the age of 15 and stayed true to the group until that groups time ended also. After finally attempting a solo career, she decided to take some time off and felt she needed to grow. She knew that if music were meant for her then she would try again.
At 22 years old, every Monday night she would sing at a karaoke bar and she would be asked if she had a demo or a manager. Having neither she took the cards and prepositions that were given as a sign that it was time to get back to her first love. In the middle of her first semester back at school she was laid off from work not too much later after being robbed. Both these tragedies gave her insight and she took as a blessing, for her lay off gave her free time to record. The first day she stepped in the studio, her experience put into one word was “indescribable”. That small spark lit an immense fire and it has not died down ever since. Now much wiser and stronger, having been though tears and troubled times, seeing loved ones die, and friends fall victim to tragedies, but being able to come through every obstacle victorious, she is ready to share her love and gift with the world.
What does she aspire to do? Inspire someone else and bring music back to the heart and into its purest form. She wants to let the world see her story and be able to find their way into their own. Her music will not only invite the audience into her world, but it will ask for the hands of her listeners to allow her music into their world. "I feel that life has given me so much to say that once my music has reached the masses, it will never be the same. Real music is needed and I am ready to bring it back to its grassroots. To a place where music is timeless, heart wrenching, and life changing." Her time is now. Ready or not, she is here….

Poetry Corner: Brittany Michelle..... To Give Up Is To Give In But Thats Not Happening... (CHI)

Self-Improvement (A Hoagland Imitation)

Just before she ran off like a child
To the warmth of her mother’s arms,
She asked the young man
To improve her life.

Using nothing but his fingertips
to make hairs come to full attention
over and over, as many times as he wanted
until chills, like an arctic breathe of air,
cooled the heat between her thighs.

Imagine him at practice every evening
more inspired than he ever was at arithmetic,
beads of sweat sprouting on his brow
thinking her body, her moan,
seeing, even before the admitting of wanted relations,
the quadratic equation of her climax
yield to the logic
of his simple math.

Maybe he watched her
walk from the car to her door
so that he could see the switch in her hips,
a silent cry to him
of hips that should be held

Maybe, as she sipped
a drink through a thick bottle,
he visualized the future
as a general standing on the shore,
one foot elevated on her body
to revel in his exhaustive victory.

Of course, he loved her and left her;
never cared about a notch to be looped

round his belt and hung
like a moose-head of achievement

Sometimes we desire
what we cannot or should not have.
There’s no need,
or we are convinced that our true desire
is that which we never claimed to want at all.
Often, what we make of ourselves
is not who we are
but life-like characters crafted from
fictitious tales that we wish to call our own.

The suffering
we all feel
becomes a necessity
we learn to numb

The climaxes of suffering are complex
intricately weaved through every moment.
She never learned to love again.

So the sidewalks that we stomp on
full of numbed bodies and spirits
are full of handed-down pains
though they were told it was their own craving.

Get'em Gang ...... Grind Harder ... Play Harder...(Bmore)

Get'em Gang is a new and inspiring up-coming rap group from Baltimore, MD, formed in 2009 starting out with only three members. Now there are 5 young talented MC's, all from Baltimore, MD. They consist of Co-Ceo Jamal "Buzzo" Connor born June 11, 1989, Co-Ceo Tramont "Young Tweez" Woodlon born July 7, 1988, David "Checkmate" Wright born Feb 25, 1991, Travis "Treyse" Bivens born Feb 2, 1990 and Levar "Solo" Glispy born Dec 24, 1984. In 2009, Solo and Treyse joined the team bringing their Unique Rap and mixed R & B Flow. This allowed the teams passion for music to expand into a powerful movement, Living by the moto of "Get Every Money," by any means. From this aspect "GET'EM GANG"was formed.

At a young age they all had a mutual passion for making music. These young men all met in North East Baltimore. After vibing together, they developed a hobby of creating music. In 2006, Buzzo and Young Tweez developed a close relationship. These two and Checkmate formed the former group "Da Kingz", with the help of other neighborhood friends. Their first performance was at Northern High School Talent show in 2007, with a feature from 810, a local artist. Recieving alot of love from the crowd made them prepare to do many more shows in the future. Toward the end of 2008, Buzzo founded the name "GET'EM GANG".

On January 1, 2009, Get'em Gang did their very first showcase at Club Krush (Belvedere Hotel), with a guest performance from Ty Baby, a former group member of MLC. In the end they did so well they were welcomed back two more times. After that Get'em Gang has had show cases at varies venues including The Black Hole Night Club, performing there multiple times and a competition for 92.3, the local radio station. As well as open mic shows at Contrast Hall, La'Son Bar & Lounge, and Eldorados Gentlemen's Club, in which they won 1st prize. That included a day with adult entertainers Kapri Styles and Roxy Reynolds, as well as a photo shoot from Bmore rap.com. Get'em Gang has co-hosted a few parties with local party promotors, such as Party Marty (Ciroc Boyz Ent.) at Club Uzo's and parties with Big Les Productions at Club Gossip. They have also released plenty of mixtapes for the streets, such as "The Dynasty" (2006, 156 copies sold), "The Blackout" (2007, 198 copies sold), Young Tweez's "Real Recognize Real" (2008, 203 copies sold), "Best of B-more -Young Tweez" (2008,172 copies sold), Buzzo's "Hood Property" (2008, 160 copies sold),Checkmate's "The Last Move" (2009, 183 copies sold).

Poetry Corner: Ebony Robinson.... "I wish I had met her before" & [untitled]

I wish I had met her before

I wish I had met her before
maybe I could have loved her better
when I promised her forever, it was in perfect confidence
now I sit holding the fragments of what we were
loving her was easy
she shined light into my darkness
but I still couldn't find my way out
my demons still haunted me
I found refuge within her walls
but I could only stay for a little while
I loved her more than anything
but I still broke her heart

[untitled]
Sometimes it cuts like a knife
I sit consumed in the regret, drowning in the what ifs
Haunted by your memory
And sometimes I just try to pretend like you never existed
Act like I don’t care on that “fuck that bitch” type shit
A facade that I wear well
But I’m exposed in those moments when we walk past each other in the street
Our eyes meet and the words the words that I try so desperately to deny come pouring out through the gateways to my soul, the portals that can bring nothing but truth
The words that if uttered would shatter the universe
I miss you.
And its funny how your ability to see through me was what I once loved about you
But now it seems to be a cruel insult added to injury
Because we both know that vulnerability was never my thing
I refuse to admit that I am hurting, especially to you
But its those moments when our eyes meet... you see
