Jay Electronica Says He Will Collaborate With Lupe Fiasco

Jay Electronica's mystery may be his magic. The New Orleans-born lyricist has made a lot of noise through very limited output, most notably his "Exhibit" series with booming Just Blaze production. While his Decon Records (as of now) debut remains on hold per his own request, Jay spoke to The Brooklyn Bodega last week in a rare interview.

Asked about a recent OkayPlayer.com message board thread comparing him to fellow emcee Lupe Fiasco, Jay Electronica revealed a potential upcoming collaboration. "We going to be on a track together in the immediate future. That's my brother. He reached out. I got bad phone etiquette so it took me a minute to reach back. But we gonna reach, we gonna talk. We’ve been in communication and we’re going to work," said Electronica.

To read the full interview, including Jay's analysis of his acceptance within the New York underground Hip Hop community, despite being born an outsider, read here.

Apple unveils the 'magical' iPad

"Apple CEO Steve Jobs on Wednesday unveiled the iPad, the widely and wildly anticipated tablet-style computer that he called "a truly magical and revolutionary product."

"What this device does is extraordinary," Jobs said. "It is the best browsing experience you've ever had. ... It's unbelievably great ... way better than a laptop. Way better than a smartphone."
The computer will act as a sort of missing link between the two. The model Jobs demonstrated at an invitation-only event in San Francisco operated without a hardware keyboard, with Jobs typing on what he described as a nearly full-size touchscreen keyboard.
"It's a dream to type on," he said.
It has a nearly 10-inch screen, runs existing apps from the Apple apps store and is available in 16-gigabyte, 32-gigabyte and 64-gigabyte versions, according to Jobs.
It will be about a half-inch thick and weigh about 1½ pounds.
Jobs said the iPad will be lightning fast: "It screams," he told a crowd that included former Vice President Al Gore. "http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/01/27/apple.tablet/index.html?hpt=Sbin

Rapper Sues T.I., Claims He Stole 'What You Know'

Rapper T.I. could be back in front of a judge, but instead of criminal charges, the rapper is being sued for copyright infringement by an upcoming rapper.

At issue is T.I.’s Grammy Award winning song “What You Know,” which Nathan Filby aka Motoe Blizzid, claims T.I. stole.
Filby, who is being represented by One LLP, claims the 2006 track sampled portions of a 2004 song he made titled Reverence.
He claims that the track was delivered to a number of industry insiders before reaching a representative at Relentless Management, a company that reportedly works with T.I.
In court documents, One LLP and Filby claimed that the tracks contain the “same harmonic” range and lawyers even presented documents that showed an algorithm that claimed to show the song’s similarities scientifically.
According to reports, Filby seeks a trial by jury and all profits derived from the song, which was featured on T.I.’s hit album King.

T.I. is currently in a halfway house after serving almost 8 months in a low security prison, after he was caught purchasing machine guns and silencers in October of 2008.

HiphopDx.com Album Review Of: Lil Wayne - The Rebirth

When Kanye West or Andre 3000 took their breaks from rapping, they did so to create something unique and cared-for. Their sincerity and artistry was strong enough to give value to their impulses, even if some fans didn’t understand them. Rebirth, on the other hand, is mired in trying to prove a point that no one was questioning to begin with. After the last three years, Lil Wayne can do whatever the hell he wants. “Can” and “should,” however, are two very different things.

Drake Talks Competition, Says He's Loyal To Lil Wayne

the latest issue of Complex Magazine, Drake describes his somewhat competitive relationship with other newcomers in rap music, addresses the hate aimed towards the Kanye-directed video "Best I Ever Had," and expresses his loyalty towards Lil Wayne and Young Money. The young rapper said that during his initial rise in popularity, he perceived peer Kid Cudi as one of his biggest rivals.

"When you're coming up, and you're in competition with somebody, it's always hard to have a friendship," he told the magazine. "I think Cudi and I are realizing that we don't threaten each other. It's ended up being one of the greatest industry friendships I have." Drake cited North Carolina native J. Cole as one rapper he may have to watch out for. "I'm at the starting line. Those guys are at home, putting on their tracksuits, getting ready to make their attack. When J. Cole gets it super-right, I think he's gonna have a place as a Nas-type character who really stands for hip-hop, but still makes ill records that everybody fucks with."
Although the Toronto rapper has expressed confidence in his abilities as an emcee, he admitted that the criticism directed towards his debut video "Best I Ever Had," may not have been totally off-base. "You can do something you believe in and people will still say, 'This shit is terrible!' But I still believe in Kanye's vision. Maybe we didn't do a great job with getting the point across--it was supposed to be a humorous video. When I read the comments, I was like, 'Man, I guess no one wants to laugh anymore.' Everybody wants the fairy tale, you know?"

2012 Lamborghini MurciƩlago Replacement - Spied

While the automotive world is always in flux, a few things nevertheless remain the same. Lamborghini's status as the most stylistically advanced, extravagant, and unabashed carmaker on the planet, for instance. The retro Miura concept from a few years ago was an aberration, so make no mistake: Lambo is sticking to the hypermodern and aggressive styling language that was inspired by Marcello Gandini, reestablished by Luc Donckerwolke, and refined by Manfred Fitzgerald with some help from Audi's world-class design team.

Our spy photographers were able to obtain proof of this when they caught this heavily camouflaged prototype of the 2012 MurciĆ©lago replacement during winter testing near the Arctic Circle. (Lambo tradition dictates that this car is likely to get a new name, rather than carry on the MurciĆ©lago moniker.) While the details of the car’s actual look remain unknown, what are clear are the perfect mid-engine proportions, angular lines, and reduced detailing. As with Lamborghini’s current cars, this supercar should provide a welcome diversion from the cluttered, busy, and pseudo-retro lines of many competitors.

Wizards may void Arenas contract

To escape paying Gilbert Arenas the rest of his clogging contract -- $80.2 million for four years after this season -- the Wizards may seek to void the deal, and do so by invoking the morals clause in the uniform player contract under the league's collective bargaining agreement. The Wizards have distanced themselves from Arenas since the handgun incident, removing his likeness from the Verizon Center and issuing terse statements that could be a precursor to an attempt to void the deal.

Review: Close the 'Book of Eli'

http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/14/ew.review.eli/index.html?hpt=Sbin

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

"The Book of Eli" stars Denzel Washington as loner in bombed-out landscape

Movie has overdone music video scenes and violence, but little humanity

Not even the action is good enough to make it worth watching, says EW

"I'd be willing to forgive "The Book of Eli" its portentous sins if it had kick-ass action scenes, and every so often Eli does slice and dice the stuffing out of half a dozen hooligans at once, or he presides over a gun battle in which the bullets clatter and echo with full-metal zing. But those are just about the only scenes in the movie that have a pulse."

A small but significant percentage of the population cannot see 3D images

They may be left behind by Hollywood and TV makers' rush to 3D technology

TV makers say users can turn off 3D display features and just view content in 2D

My first 3d experience  that actually kinda of convinced me to really look forward to 3d things, was watching the movie Avatar... it was real good and the 3d made it that much better... i do know someone who cannot see in 3d but i think the percentages arent great enough to stop them from fully exploring the 3d world... cuz the 2d area is over son....

Wyclef Defends Yele Allegations Of Fiscal Inconsistency

Wyclef returned to his native Haiti at the Port-au-Prince airport the day after the thousands upon thousands were killed in a lethal 7.0 earthquake. Thursday, the entertainer then began clearing the dead bodies of his country’s inhabitants off of the streets. Among other matters, he’s issued a plea to the President, started to plan telethon with George Clooney and his tireless lobbying.

Despite his efforts, the singer/rapper now must contend with allegations of misappropriated funds from his YĆ©le Haiti Foundation, according to a report from The Washington Post. "It seems clear that a significant amount of the monies that this charity raises go for costs other than providing benefits to Haitians in need," said Dean Zerbe, national managing director of Alliant Group, a tax services company.
Hugh Locke, President of YĆ©le Haiti, countered the notion in a statement that was issued to AllHipHop.com early Saturday morning.
“Wyclef Jean, the founder of YĆ©le Haiti has never profited from his organization. It’s a shame that during this international emergency, we have had to divert resources away from our response efforts to address these allegations,” Locke said.
Locke also told the Post, “I think people should be very comfortable that any money given to Yele Haiti is going 100 percent to emergency relief." He also stated that Wyclef’s status in Haiti gives them more access to those that truly need the money.
Furthermore, Locke stated that the organization has used monies raised for scholarships, a soccer team, various educational trips, employs natives and also established a food program that distributed supplies after a 2008 hurricane.
At press time, the YĆ©le Haiti Foundation had raised over $2 million in contributions, largely through texted donations

Mystikal Released From Prison, Encourages Positivity

Veteran No Limit and Jive Records rapper Mystikal walked out of the Louisiana State Prison System late yesterday (January 14). This comes after a six-year sentence was given to the rapper in 2004, for forcing a stylist to perform video-taped sexual acts on the popular rapper. Initially claiming innocence, the surfacing video later changed the New Orleans Rap veteran's plea, and led towards his sentence.

“We gotta pay more attention to what we’re doing our self. That’s an easy excuse,” Mystikal told local radio station Q93. Speaking about the Rap community's ever-present incarcerations, including Louisiana peers Lil Wayne and Lil Boosie, as well as Atlanta rappers T.I., Gucci Mane and perhaps Shawty Redd, Mystikal added, “We gotta take responsibility for what we do. We can't be foolish especially when you are blessed and successful. We gotta tighten up.”
Mystikal first released an independent self-titled 1994 album. After catching the attention of popular Hip Hop label, Jive in the year after, he would release Mind Of Mystikal in 1996, garnering the now 39 year-old rapper, his first gold plaque.
With the emergence of No Limit Records, Mystikal would prove to be Master P's first major label acquisition, prior to Snoop Dogg two years later. In partnership with Jive, No Limit would release two platinum albums with Mystikal. After leaving Percy Miller's label at the end of the '90s, Mystikal returned solely to Jive for his biggest success, 2000's Let's Get Ready. The album was a #1 album on the Pop charts, backed by singles "Shake Ya Ass" and "Danger (Been So Long)." After one prior gold album, Tarantula in 2001, Mystikal's recording career went mute for almost a decade.
He told Q93 that he maintains plans to rap, but with a lesson-learned. "I'm gonna be doing a lot of positive stuff he said," unclear whether he meant on or off the microphone. He did say though, "Wait till I shake the world up now," regarding his music. There is no specification as to whether Mystikal has any label obligation at this time.

Jay Electronica's Exhibit C: The End of “Genetically-Modified” Hip-Hop?

Call him Jay Electronica or “Jay Elec-Hannukah” or “Jay Elec- Yarmulke.” By mid last month, though, most came to know him as the man who could turn on its head the dynamics of commercial, for-profit radio, and forever change the way fans listened to Hip-Hop. With one song: “Exhibit C.”

The hard-hitting, 5-minute cut, recorded in July ‘09, set ablaze the internet, surrendering bloggers and fans alike at the mercy of one of Hip-Hop’s most prolific wordsmiths. Upon hearing it, many popular bloggers were convinced no one else could do the instrumental—which was released via iTunes—justice. Better left untouched. They complained the impeccable cadence of Jay Electronica’s 3 verses, rendered hookless, was matchless and peerless, and any MC or rapper who attempted a remix or freestyle would be playing a dangerous game with their careers. Of course Hip-Hop artists are hard-headed by nature, so a few still felt the need to take the beat and do something with it—in spite of, and perhaps because of, the bloggers’ warnings.

Civil rights hero caught in corruption probe to begin serving sentence

Bobby DeLaughter was hailed as hero after convicting the killer of Medgar Evers

Bobby DeLaughter -- the prosecutor who secured the conviction in the infamous Medgar Evers Mississippi murder case -- is himself now headed to prison.

It was DeLaughter's dogged 1994 prosecution and the subsequent conviction of Ku Klux Klan member Byron De La Beckwith that helped trigger the reopening of dozens of civil rights cold cases.
DeLaughter became an instant hero of the civil rights movement. Alec Baldwin portrayed him in the 1996 movie, "Ghosts of Mississippi," and his closing statement was once dubbed one of the greatest closing arguments in modern law.
